Lifestyle Tips for Losing Weight

Take Your Time Over Meals

Don’t wolf down your food. Instead, take smaller bites each time and take your time to savour each bite.  Chew your food well, and enjoy your mealtime. Stop eating when you are full. A slow paced meal offers greater pleasure from smaller portions and allows your body’s fullness hormones to be triggered and your brain to receive the signal that you are full.

If you need some discipline, set a timer for 20 minutes and make your meal last that long.

Watch out for that Pause During Meals

Most of us have a natural pause when we eat, where we pause for a short time, and put down our utensils. Don’t miss this natural cue that your body is satisfied. Listen to it, and don’t pick up the utensils again. Clear your plate and stop eating.

Set Attainable Goals : Bring Out that Skirt that You Love but is that Wee Bit Too Tight

Bring out that skirt, or dress that you would love to fit back into but is just that wee bit too tight and hang it in a conspicuous place.  Use this as a motivator, and to remind yourself of your goal. Think of that skirt the next time you reach for that ice cream or donut. You will find that the skirt will fit in no time!

Eat Fruit – Don’t Drink It

Skip fruit juice and eat whole fruit instead.

The fiber in your fruit will help you stay satisfied longer. Also, research shows that liquid carbohydrates just aren’t as filling as solids.

Get your Beauty Sleep!

Too little sleep may rev up your appetite and make you hungry faster – so get at least 7-8 hours of sleep a night.

Replace those Sugary Sodas

Replace your sugary soda with water, or if you are craving some flavour, green tea!  Avoiding that sugary soda will cut your sugar intake by about 10 teaspoons of sugar.

Green tea can increase your metabolic rate, possibly through the action of phytochemicals called catechins. It’s also a great anti-oxidant.

Breakfast

Kickstart your metabolic rate with breakfast – do not skip this meal. Studies show that people who eat breakfast every morning enjoy more energy and a better mood throughout the day. And drink plenty of water in the morning to recharge and refresh your body!

Walk

Don’t look for the lot nearest to the exit – park in a further lot and walk! Walk, don’t drive to your neighbourhood shops. Resolve to take the stairs where you can. A small difference will go a long way.

So resolve to make these changes to your lifestyle today, for a healthier and slimmer you.
